During 2018’s A-Z Challenge, we wrote the first draft of “The November Deadline” and to celebrate that this is now (finally) out with beta readers, we’ll be producing a daily piece of micro-fiction linked to it – some prequel, some containing a detail not included in the story, some snippets from sequels currently being written.

“Ere Jack, as I’m doin’ undercover spy stuff, does I get one of them you know whats?”
“Sorry Frank, you’ve lost me old chap.”
“A moniker – y’know, some sort of secret codename.”
“It wasn’t something I’d given any thought to. Why, did you have something in mind?”
“Yeah, I were thinking Foxtrot.”
“You mean like the dance? I’d no idea you had an interest…”
“Nah, nuffin’ like that. It were my Ma! ‘er idea of ‘eaven were a night down the Palais. She used ta call me Foxtrot Frank and whirl me round the parlour.”
“Foxtrot Frank it is then!”

When we came across Spy stories or movies it was the numbering that was fascinating like Secret Agent 003 and so on

Foxtrot for good ol Ma.
Then mine would be Shithead (yes, she did call me that, and more than once). Nutsy Nager was top of the list.

Oh dear. It’s not a prerequisite that you go with a childhood nickname!

Good to have a little glimpse of some humour in the story, and a couple of characters we could warm to straight away.

Thanks Iain. The initial book has a lot of “poor Frank” so it was enjoyable to be a tad more light-hearted with him.
