#A2Z Challenge: G for Golf

During 2018’s A-Z Challenge, we wrote the first draft of “The November Deadline” and to celebrate that this is now (finally) out with beta readers, we’ll be producing a daily piece of micro-fiction linked to it – some prequel, some containing a detail not included in the story, some snippets from sequels currently being written.

“A man can’t even enjoy a quiet pint in the pub!” Muttering as he made tea, Tink settled into his favourite armchair, musing how much he missed idle sporting chatter. Answering the phone’s ring cautiously, he relaxed on hearing unmistakably rounded vowels.

“Evening Mike bach, all well with you?”

“Oh quite so, thank you Tinkerbell. I’m managing to keep myself busy.”

“Sit down with a cuppa then and let me tell you about the magnificent game of golf being played by your countryman at the Open.”

Michaela laughed, but settled down as bid – two unlikely friends, united in missing Jack.

  1. I dont know much about golf but I have seen people speak about it with a lot of passion …. In some parts of the world it has the impression of a “rich man’s game” ha ha .. especially since it’s rare and expensive to book … I like to play badminton and used to be a basketball player( a terrible one though 🙂 ) in high school

    1. Jayashree, I don’t think golf would be Tink’s top sporting interests by any means, but he’s chatted to enough genuine fans in the pub to know a fair bit about it.

  2. This grounds the story nicely in a bit of real world ordinary chat, makes the characters seem very human – especially at a time when we are missing that chance of idle conversation with each other.
